Do you know what Public Access Media is? Do you know that community media centers, like Quote Unquote, offer several production training classes for community members, like yourself? If you answered YES to these questions—great job---you may be part of the minority who is informed about Public, Education and Government (PEG) access stations.
I believe that public access stations, nationwide, should focus more on a collaborative campaign to increase awareness of the importance of PEG stations and what they do for community building. Based on this lack of awareness, I am in the beginning stages, working with other PEG stations, nationwide, to produce a campaign unofficially titled: "Public Access Matters." I think that the community alliance for PEG stations should be stronger. Community support and awareness is imperative in this economic downward spiral, when stations are being closed or funding is being drastically cut.
