for third round of “New Visions/New Mexico ”
Contract Awards
New Mexico-based filmmakers eligible to receive contracts up to $20,000 –
Panavision again provides two awards of camera rental packages valued at $10,000 each.
The deadline for proposals is September 5, 2008 . Awardees will be announced in November.
A free seminar about preparing a New Visions/New Mexico proposal will take place at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque at 10:00 am on August 8, 2008.
Interested filmmakers should call 505-476-5600 to reserve a seat.

The National Association of Commissions for Women holds 39th Annual Business Meeting
and Convention in Albuquerque

to Headline Convention
ALBUQUERQUE (July 14, 2008)
The NM Commission on Status of Women will host the 39 th Annual National Association of Commissions for Women (NACW) Business Meeting and Convention at the Hotel Albuquerque from Wednesday, July 16 through Saturday, July 19, 2008. This year's theme, “Girls of Today, Women of Tomorrow” highlights how Commissions around the country can replicate New Mexico's successful and innovative girls programs in their own communities.
“It is an honor for the NM Commission to host this prestigious event,” states Mary Molina Mescall, Executive Director of the Commission as well as a board member for the NACW. “This is an opportunity for Commissions to discuss issues pertinent to all women – pay equity, women's health, and successful strategic planning.”
Alisa Valdes-Rodriguez will be speaking on Wednesday, July 16, 2008 during the Ya-ta-hey Opening Dinner from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the Hotel Albuquerque's Franciscan Ballroom.
Dr. Martha Burk will be speaking on Saturday, July 19, 2008 at 8:30 a.m. at the Hotel Albuquerque's Franciscan Ballroom.

Alisa Valdes-Rodriguez, named one of America's “25 Most Influential Hispanics” by TIME magazine, is author of The Dirty Girls Social Club , a vibrant portrait of six Latina friends in their late twenties. A best seller and in development as a feature film with a major movie studio, Valdes-Rodriguez has written four subsequent books including Haters a teen novel which is also in development for a series on The N, Nickelodeon's teen network.
Dr. Martha Burk is a political psychologist and women's issues expert who is co-founder for the Center of Advancement for Public Policy, is Director of the Corporate Accountability Project for the National Council of Women's Organizations, and serves as Money Editor for Ms. magazine. Her latest book, Your Money and Your Life: The High Stakes for Women Voters in '08 and Beyond, is a Ms. Magazine book selection.
The NACW is the professional organization for over 200 commissions for women who are committed to equality and justice for women, providing support and expertise and serving as their national voice.
